The earliest stage of human testing, in a small group, focused on safety.
What it means
Phase 1 studies are usually the first time a treatment is given to people. They enrol a small number of participants and focus on safety, tolerability, and finding a workable dose.
Why it matters if you take part
The main question is how the treatment is tolerated, not whether it works. Phase 1 studies often involve more frequent visits and more monitoring than later phases.
